It all started with an impulse.
Even those who think about the future like to look back at everything that electrified and stimulated, that crackled and created voltage. Our future began in 2008 with the strongest of all impulses: a question.

Lightbulb moment
Solutions are the result of problems. When EXYTRON’s founder was on the high seas, he could not let go of one question: instead of diesel, can I power a ship with an energy which releases the similar amount of power but doesn’t harm the environment? This thought matured into a concrete idea with global potential. From this idea, EXYTRON developed the energy supply system up to patent registration.
We measure ideas
We carry out extensive studies and research the technical implementation. We also make progress in the laboratory conditions. We assess the economic and technical risk of promising technologies and have a partner which is renowned and experienced, among other qualities, in the Leibniz Institute for Catalysis (LIKAT).
Our activity is officially registered
EXYTRON GmbH is registered number HRB148856 in the Commercial Register at the Berlin registration court. The headquarters of the company was founded in Rostock, close to project partner Leibniz Institute for Catalysis (LIKAT).
Pioneering spirit supported
We have it in black and white: EXYTRON contributes to the research, development and innovation of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and therefore receives support from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The name of our collaborative project: ‘Chemischer Energiespeicher zur dezentralen Energieversorgung’ [Chemical Energy Storage for Decentralised Energy Supply].
The key to more power
We open our head office in Schonenfahrerstraße in Rostock and now have the ideal basis to prepare for our market launch.
Electrifying ideas
Finally, the moment arrives: we set up our own development centre in ITC Bentwisch, right on the edge of Rostock. Here, we have enough space to implement and test our power-to-gas system/power-to-x system. A small laboratory is set up for the experimental development. In this way, methanation for the production of regenerative natural gas can always be optimised.
A revolution you can feel
EXYTRON opens showroom in Rostock city harbour. This puts our SmartEnergy Technology within reach. For the first time, our guests can experience live how water is brought to the boil with regenerative energy from our power-to-gas system.
GreenTec Award
We are electrified! We stormed the podium at the 2016 GreenTec awards. At a glamorous gala in Munich, in front of many prominent guests, we were awarded Europe’s biggest economic and environmental prize in the ‘Special Prize Start-up’ category.
Expo 2017
The German Federal Government invited EXYTRON to present the innovative, emission-free energy storage and decentralised energy supply from renewable energies using power-to-gas/power-to-x at the German pavilion at the world exposition EXPO 2017 in Astana, Kazakhstan.
Commissioning Augsburg Project
On February 19, 2019, the Mayor of Augsburg, Dr. Kurt Gribl, will commission the world’s first power-to-gas system in existing buildings with the energy supply system from EXYTRON. As the operator of the system, the Augsburg municipal utilities now supply 70 apartments with climate-friendly energy from their own PV system in the form of electricity and heat, even when the sun is not shining – thanks to EXYTRON’s patented technology.
The project planning for “Lübesse Energy Village” is beginning
Following a positive feasibility study in 2018, planning work will begin on the flagship project in the field of sector coupling – the Lübesse Energy Village. EXYTRON plants are to be built on an area of around 57,000 m² to supply the municipality of Lübesse and the adjacent industrial estate with electricity and heating.
